HALF-LIFE 2 DEATHMATCH · PLAYER GUIDE
Haven is Half-Life 2 Deathmatch with a few extra toys: custom weapons, grapple movement, infinite sprint, spawn protection, bots, custom maps and player-selectable models.
Your normal HL2DM controls still work as usual. The sections below cover the extra Haven features and commands that are useful to players.
Chat commands beginning with ! can simply be typed into normal in-game chat.
Haven's grapple hook lets you attach to a valid point and pull yourself towards it.
Type !grapplehelp in chat for the in-game instructions.
Recommended bind:
bind mouse3 +hookHold the bound button to pull yourself towards the grapple point. Release the button to let go.
You can replace mouse3 with another key if you prefer.
Use your normal HL2DM sprint control.
Haven's movement system keeps sprint available continuously, so you can keep moving at full pace without the normal sprint limitation.
When you spawn, Haven protects you from immediate attack. The blue screen tint and red SPAWN PROTECTION display show when protection is active.
Moving begins the protection grace period. Attacking with primary or secondary fire immediately ends your protection.
Haven can also provide wall protection when a player remains stationary facing a nearby wall.
Spawn protection is there to stop cheap spawn kills, not to turn the spawn point into a holiday home.
Haven modifies several standard HL2DM weapons while keeping the familiar Half-Life 2 arsenal.
The .357 Magnum has a Haven secondary-fire zoom. Use your normal secondary-fire control to cycle the zoom.
The AR2 has Haven secondary ammunition rules. Combine-ball ammunition is deliberately limited rather than being endlessly replenished.
The Crossbow includes Haven explosive and ricochet behaviour.
Weapon tuning is controlled by the server and may occasionally change as Haven is refined.
Type !model or !models in chat to open the Haven Player Model menu.
Pick a Half-Life 2 character or select Default HL2DM Model to return to normal. Haven remembers your choice and reapplies it when you spawn.
